Erin Coughlin has been a ballet teacher for over 15 years and has enjoyed teaching and choreographing classical ballet for all ages, in New Hampshire and now Maine.
Her early training was an intensive, pre-professional ballet program at the Granite State Ballet under the tutelage of Doreen Cafarella (Artistic Director) and Tony Williams (Boston Ballet Principal, Artistic Director of the Tony Williams Dance Company.) She performed in yearly classical repertory and demonstration performances, in both original and classical variations, and for 4 years performed the role of an older Clara in the company’s yearly full length Nutcracker. Free time from her studio was spent working privately with Edra Toth (Boston Ballet, New York City Ballet).
Mrs. Coughlin spent her summers training at GSB as well as at The Burklyn Ballet Theatre in Vermont. Her notable teachers were Arthur Leeth (Boston Ballet Principal, later Ballet Master), Alexander Bennett (Royal Ballet Principal), Cherie Noble (Pennsylvania Ballet - Ballet Master), Angela Whitehill (Artistic Director). She was chosen to perform in soloist and principal roles including the Don Quixote pas de deux, Raymonda, Effie in La Sylphide, as well as original works and Bournonville pieces.
While attending college part time she became a principal dancer with the Granite State Ballet and was given the role of Cinderella in their full-length production, a role that was choreographed on her with wonderful reviews. She also performed as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Queen, Lead Marzipan, and the Arabian pas de deux.
Mrs. Coughlin moved to New York to audition for larger ballet companies and to attend the Joffrey Ballet on full scholarship. She became an apprentice with Colorado Ballet (Artistic Director Sergey Kozadayev). She stopped dancing for a time due to an injury and earned a BA in Psychology and an MEd in Special Education. She became a kindergarten teacher for a year and then taught first grade before starting a family. She currently lives in MidCoast Maine with her beautiful family. She is excited to be a part of The Moving Company Dance Studio family!
